Investigators

Our multidisciplinary team comprises highly experienced professionals, including a cardiologist, neurologist, psychiatrist, dermatologist, urogynecologist, and ophthalmologist. Each member has served as an investigator across numerous clinical trials, strengthening Buena Park Research Center’s capacity to support a broad spectrum of therapeutic areas.

Jeffrey Ries, D.O. Neurology A specialist in MS, Parkinson’s, and sleep disorders with a focus on patient-centered therapeutic interventions. Since 2019, he has served as the Principal Investigator on 75 psychiatric and neurologic studies.

Karyn S. Eilber M.D. Urogynecology A UCLA School of Medicine alumna and Professor of Urology at Cedars-Sinai. Board-certified in both Urology and Urogynecology, she specializes in female pelvic floor disorders, bladder health, and voiding dysfunction. As an active researcher, she has served as the Principal Investigator on numerous clinical trials and has authored over 110 peer-reviewed publications.

Rebecca Kornbluh, M.D. Psychiatry A Harvard-educated MPH and Principal Investigator for over 35 adult and pediatric clinical trials. Her expertise spans ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, and complex psychiatric conditions like PTSD and Substance Use Disorder.

Chiayu Chen, M.D., F.A.C.C. Cardiology An Albert Einstein College of Medicine alumnus specializing in cardiovascular medicine. Since 1997, Dr. Chen has led over 100 Phase II-IV cardiovascular disease trials as Principal Investigator. He is fully fluent in both English and Mandarin.

Hong T. Nguyen, M.D. Dermatology Dr. Hong Nguyen is a board-certified dermatologist with over a decade of experience in comprehensive, evidence-based medical and surgical dermatology. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California, followed by her medical degree at the UCLA School of Medicine and dermatology residency training at UC Irvine. Dr. Nguyen brings valuable trial experience to the team, having served as a research consultant on Phase I clinical studies. Her specialized clinical interests include skin cancer detection and treatment, acne, rosacea, and complex rashes. Known for her detail-oriented and collaborative approach, she brings rigorous clinical oversight and dedicated patient care to the research team at Buena Park Research Center.

Marc H. Shomer, M.D., PhD Ophthalmology A Board Certified Ophthalmologist and Clinical Instructor at the Doheny Eye Institute. Dr. Shomer specializes in advanced surgical techniques and has led nearly 10 clinical trials focusing on retinal diseases.

Sub-Investigators & Specialists

Our clinical team is supported by specialized experts who bring precision and high-level clinical oversight to every trial. From licensed psychologists providing expert diagnostic ratings to advanced practice nurses managing complex metabolic and psychiatric assessments, our specialists ensure the highest standards of data integrity and patient care.

Poonam "Nina" Banerjee, PhD Psychology A Licensed Clinical Psychologist and veteran Psychometric Rater since 2011. She ensures diagnostic precision and data integrity across a broad range of psychiatric and substance use trials.

Anna Benjamins, MSN, AGACNP-BC Nurse Practitioner A Master-prepared nurse specializing in comprehensive weight management and precise diagnostic ratings. She administers gold-standard assessments for complex psychiatric, cardiac, and metabolic trials.
